Further information about Afghan Connection:
Afghan Connection (AC) was set up by Dr Sarah Fane in 2002, following her travels to Afghanistan as a doctor in the Soviet war and under the Taliban regime. The charity aims to transform life opportunities for children in remote and underserved regions of Afghanistan through support for education projects. AC has built 46 schools for 75,000 children and renovated more than 70 other schools serving some 110,000 children. Through its support, 1000 teachers have received training and 2700 children attend community based education classes in areas where there are no schools.
Alongside the meteoric rise of the Afghanistan National Cricket Team, with the Marylebone Cricket Club as partners, Afghan Connection has built 100 cricket pitches in schools and coached 4,500 children and young people with disabilities, promoting peace through sport.
